Record a display, a window or just an area.
Press ⌥⌘5 from any app and Lumae's capture bar comes up. Pick a display, a window or an area, choose your microphone, system sound and camera, and record. The clip lands in a project, ready to edit.
How it works

Press ⌥⌘5
From any app, or press Record (⌘R) in a project. The capture bar opens on the mode you used last.
- 02
Pick what to record
Click a display or a window to start, or drag an area and press Record. The area you used last is already drawn. Set Mic, System and Camera in the same bar.
- 03
Demo, then Stop
After the 3-second countdown, do your demo. Press Stop in the pill, or ⌥⌘5 again, and the clip lands in the project. The arrow beside Stop restarts or discards the take.
What you can change
Each one is named the way it appears in Lumae.
- Display, Window, Area
- What to record. Space switches between Window and Area while you choose.
- Mic
- System Default, any microphone, or Don't Record Microphone. Your voice lands on its own lane.
- System
- The sound your Mac plays, recorded with the clip. Lumae's own sounds are left out.
- Camera
- Any camera, or Don't Film the Camera.
- 3-Second Countdown
- On by default. Escape cancels it, and Return starts recording at once.
- Retake…
- Records a clip again on the area it recorded, and puts the new take in its place (⇧⌘R).

Can I record a single window?
Yes. Window mode captures just that window, with nothing overlapping it and its shadow left out.
Is my voice a separate track?
Yes. The microphone is recorded on its own and lands on the Narration lane, so you can level, fade or replace it.
What happens if I quit while recording?
Lumae asks first, and keeps the recording up to that point.
Is there a time limit or a watermark?
No. Record as long as you like, and nothing is added to the picture.
