Narrate over your video while it plays.
Press record and talk while the video plays from the playhead. Your take lands on its own lane, linked to the clip under it, and the clip's sound and any music dip under your voice, then come back when you stop.

Record from 0:01.0Space also stops.
How it works
- 01
Set the playhead
Put it where you want to start talking, then press Record in Audio › Narration, or ⌥⌘R.

Talk while it plays
Space or ⌘. stops, and so does reaching the end. The take lands on the Narration lane in place of any narration it covers, and the clip's sound and the music dip under it.

Polish the take
Select it to set its Volume and Fades, or Re-record it in place. Add a song with Add › Music….
What you can change
Each one is named the way it appears in Lumae.
- Microphone
- System Default or any connected microphone. One choice for narration and screen recordings.
- Volume
- For narration, each take and the music, from 0 % to 200 %.
- Under narration
- On by default, for both the clips' own sound and the music.
- Lowers to
- How quiet they get while you talk: 20 % for clip sound and 30 % for music by default.
- Fade in, Fade out
- On each take or piece of music, up to 10 seconds.
- Re-record…
- Records a take again from its start, in the space the old one had.

Which microphone does it use?
The one you pick in Audio › Narration or in the capture bar's Mic menu. It's one choice for the whole app, and System Default follows macOS.
Can I redo one take?
Yes. Select it and choose Re-record…. It records again from that take's start.
Does the music get out of the way by itself?
Yes. Under narration is on by default and lowers the music to 30 % while you talk. Turn it off, or move Lowers to.
Does narration follow my clip edits?
Yes. A take recorded over a clip is linked to it, so it moves, trims, splits, speeds up and deletes with the clip, in sync. Clip › Unlink from Clip (⌘L) sets it free.
